About John McDevitt
John and his wife have lived in Whitpain Township for over 15 years, with one son currently attending Wissahickon Middle School. He received his bachelor's degree from West Chester University, majoring in Finance, and his master’s degree from Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business. With strong financial and analytic skills, he has a distinguished career in financial services, currently serving as Vice President of Compliance for a leading investment technology firm. John is also very active in the community, serving as Treasurer for the local Republican Committee, and having coached kids on local football, baseball, and basketball teams.
Along with the other GOP candidates, John remains concerned at the current all-Democrat Township Board of Supervisors, which in no way represents the diversity of the community. He watches a consistent pattern of overspending, well beyond the revenue received and budget allowances, even prompting a recent tax increase. He recognizes that future budgets will be significantly more challenging without a revenue rebound from existing revenue streams, an increase in the real estate tax millage, or a significant reduction in the expenses which may impact public services. In addition, the board has consistently embraced the rezoning of commercial office space to accommodate new, high-density residential housing, which impacts traffic congestion, demand on township resources, and property tax bases.
John wants to work closely with the other township supervisors, bringing his extensive business and financial experience to help guide sound financial management. Hold the line on tax and spend projects, maintaining the townships strong AAA bond rating. And rather than continually embracing new high-density housing, consider how unused commercial properties could be re-purposed around things like indoor sports facilities, daycare centers, etc., benefiting all township residents. He would help ensure that tax dollars are well-managed, with tax increases transparent, and preferably infrequent. He would work with the Whitpain Police Department to ensure our community remains one of the safest places to live. Help keep open spaces safe from overdevelopment and promote more respectful dialog and collaboration with the other Supervisors, while soliciting input and ideas from the community.
