About Maureen Bogut
Maureen Bogut and her husband have been residents of Whitpain Township for over 15 years. They have two daughters, both of whom went through the Wissahickon school system. She has her bachelor’s and master’s in Speech Pathology and Audiology, and is a Doctor of Medical Science. She was formerly a speech language pathologist, and currently serves as a Neurological Physician Assistant. She has always been extremely detailed oriented, taking every position with utmost seriousness. Maureen is also active within the community. She serves as Secretary for the Whitpain Township Republican Committee, was a leader with the Girl Scouts of America for six years, and has been an active volunteer for the Wissahickon Home and School Association.
Along with other residents, Maureen remains deeply concerned about the township and school board’s continued pattern of overspending, leading to increased debt and resident tax burden. Significant questions have been raised about the terms and handling of the Mermaid facility purchase, unjustified overspending on the local dog park, and a $10 million commitment to a community center knowing full well that these costs will increase substantially. Plus the ongoing commitment to high-density housing and other commercial development that has impacted greenspaces, historic buildings, traffic congestion, and eroding of the charm and character of a historic community.
A fresh eye is needed to assess where there is waste in contracts and spending to help decrease the burden on the local taxpayers. A strong township auditor should seek ways to cut costs with an objective eye and ensure that taxpayer dollars are used in ethically and fiscally responsible ways. As township auditor, I will work closely with our Township Supervisors to ensure fiscal responsibility in awarding businesses bids and work contracts. I will encourage competition by exploring multiple bidders to achieve not just the highest quality, but the most financially responsible choices for our township. Whitpain is a wonderful township, but it will not remain so without new leadership.
