About Steve Black

Steve Black was born and raised in Montgomery County. He and his wife have five children, three school-age attending Wissahickon schools. He attended Germantown Academy and is a graduate of the College of Charleston with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. While in college he served as captain of the men’s swimming team and was recognized as an Academic All-American. During his career he has worked in and owned multiple highly successful businesses in both the real estate and health and wellness fields. He remains actively involved in the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and having a son who was diagnosed with this condition, is highly aware of the need for supporting children with special needs.

Steve’s background, experience, and personal commitment make him an excellent candidate for the Wissahickon school board, including:

  • Multiple time business owner who understands fiscal and budgetary responsibility

  • He has served on numerous civic and community boards, as both member and co-chair

  • Proven leader in business and his community, able to work effectively in building collaborative environments to achieving superior results

  • Understands the criticality of health and wellness in every setting, including home life, in business, and especially with the student population

  • Passionately committed to academic excellence, and preparing students for future success

Throughout their time in the school district, Steve and his wife have observed a continued decline in school ratings and academic performance, lack of transparency from the school board and administrators, an increase in school violence combined with ineffective disciplinary practices, and a board that remains consistently focused on the wrong priorities. He wants to work with the other board members to bring energy, creativity, and hard work to promote academic excellence and the best student experience possible. He supports transparency in communications, and a commitment to fiscal responsibility, ensuring that community tax dollars are spent appropriately for facilities, programs, and staffing that promote success for all students. And he is passionately committed to ensuring safe, healthy, inspiring environments for teachers, students, and administrators.
